LCHS Advances 9 to State Track Meet

Click here for an order of events for the 2009 WV State Track Meet

LCHS hosted the annual Region II track meet on Thursday May 14th. For those of you that don't know, the regional event is the qualifier for the state meet to be held in Charleston on May 22nd and 23rd. The top 3 finishers from each region and the next 4 best times from across the state for each running event qualify for the state meet. In field events, the top 4 from each region, or athletes meeting a minimum mark qualify for the state meet. LCHS track will be sending 9 athletes to the meet this year.

The boys 4x100 team turned in it's season best effort with a time of 44.92, which was good enough for 3rd in the competition Thursday. The team consisted of Kevin Darlington, Derrick Mick, Kyle Mick and Tyler Williams.

Tyler Williams jumped 6-00.00 in the high jump competition which was good enough for 4th place and a trip to Charleston.

Ethan Wilson threw the shot put 50-11.00 and placed second.

On the girls side, LCHS will be sending 4.

Senior Lauren Nealy will be competing in the Long Jump. She placed 5th with a jump of 15-08.50. The minimum qualifying mark for girls long jump is 15-00.00. Lauren will also be competing with the girls 4x100 team. The team placed 4th in the competition with a time of 52.6. The time was good enough to qualify for the stated competition. The team will be seeded 8th in the state. That team consists of, along with Nealy, Shardinae Adams, Brooke Alton and Kristen McWhorter.

Shardinae Adams will also be competing in the Long Jump. She finished 4th with a jump of 15-09.00.

Kristen McWhorter, in addition to the 4x100, will be competing in the Long Jump, 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. She had personal bests in each of the hurdle events, 16.35 in the 100's and 48.14 in the 300's enroute to her second place finishes. She will be seeded 5th in the 300-meter hurdles and 9th in the 100-meter hurdles at the statewide competition.

Kristen tied with Taylor Brown from Jefferson for high point female athlete in the competition. Kristen may be the first athlete from LCHS to qualify for the state competition in all 4 eligible events. If you know differently, please correct us.

The Long Jumping trio of Adams, McWhorter and Nealy could place 1-2-3 in the state if good days are had by all.

Please give all of these athletes some words of encouragement if you see them before Friday. A small prayer wouldn't bother us either!!!

State Meet

Our qualifying athletes will travel on Friday to Charleston, WV to attend the meet. Tune back in to this website for results next week.

This Website

Thanks to Bobby Williams for helping with the technical part of maintaining this website. Without his help…well it just wouldn't be there. Thanks Bobby.

Thanks for the Regional Meet Help!

Special thanks to the ROTC crew. Brittany Montgomery, Michael Carver, Adam James and Dean Orndorff were among the faces that I recognized, but there were more I know and I apologize that I don't have a full list of names. These folks did a GREAT job of hurdle placement and just in general being go to people. I hope that the meet director from WVSSAC had the courtesy to thank you… but in case he didn't, please know that our track team and coaching staff noticed the effort and we thank you!!!
